Traveling ‘green’ – lessons from London to Switzerland, via train

Submitted by Alana on Fri, 01/07/2022 - 17:05

As a company, we’ve changed our approach to travel.

Working in an industry that favors face-to-face meetings for effective scientific exchange, train travel, wherever feasible, is one way in which the AS&K group is reducing its environmental impact. And it’s one reason why we were recognized as one of Europe’s Climate Leaders 2022 by the Financial Times.

Big Pharma’s Big Plans to Combat Climate Change

Submitted by admin on Fri, 22/04/2022 - 11:19

If you asked someone who they thought were the main contributors to climate change the answers would likely include energy companies and automotive industries, right? Not everyone thinks of the role that the pharmaceutical industry plays, even though it contributed 55% more CO2 than the automotive industry in 2015.1 In 2019, the manufacture of pharmaceuticals and chemicals was the largest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions within the NHS England.2

Improving Recycling at Medical Education Events

It’s Recycle Week in the UK this week, and to mark the occasion we thought we would take a look at how to improve recycling – and reduce the materials we use – at medical education events.

For a large event, there might be a wide variety of materials produced, from welcome letters and departure instructions, to signage, agendas and delegate notebooks, to name badges, lanyards, bottled water, stage sets, and more. Here’s some pointers for the kinds of things we try to do at Remedica to minimize production, maximize recycling, and generally be kinder to the planet.

Setting Science Based Targets for Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Submitted by Beatrice on Thu, 05/08/2021 - 11:55

We are pleased to announce that we’ve now set our targets for greenhouse gas reduction, using the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) framework.

The SBTi aims to drive ambitious climate action in the private sector by enabling companies to set science-based emissions reduction targets. In the case of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) such as us, this has been simplified into a target of 50% reduction in Scopes 1 and 2 emissions, which should for most SMEs be in line with the Paris Accord’s aim of limiting climate change to 1.5C above pre-industrial levels.

Towards Net Zero

Submitted by Beatrice on Tue, 27/07/2021 - 12:53

The pandemic has meant that we, as a company, haven’t flown anywhere for a year. The result has been a substantial reduction of our carbon footprint, one that we hope to use as a “kick start” to keep further reducing our carbon impact post-pandemic.

Do AS&Kers Dream of Electric Cars?

Submitted by Beatrice on Thu, 17/06/2021 - 09:52

We’re committed to doing all we can to reduce our carbon footprint – at home as well as for our clients. One way we’re doing this internally is by offering our staff a salary sacrifice scheme for electric cars. This is a government scheme that allows people to lease a new electric car with payments from gross salary, before tax and national insurance, thus making a substantial saving.
